About Paisley
It is the biggest town in Renfrewshire, and Paisley has a close proximity to Glasgow. It’s famous for being the birthplace of the Paisley shawl and pattern, which were all the rage during the Victorian era. Although the weaving and cotton mills are now silent, they have been transformed into upscale apartments, preserving the town’s historical ties. Despite the decline of the old industries, Paisley thrives as a vibrant town, thanks to its strong bond with Glasgow, located just 6.9 miles to the east. If you’re thinking of moving to Paisley, you will be armed with great transport links, fantastic local businesses and more!
Paisley town centre is characterized by the towering spires of its churches and the narrow streets filled with sandstone terraces and townhouses. Several conservation areas house some of the most iconic historical buildings. Despite being close to Glasgow, you don’t need to go to the city for shopping or entertainment. The High Street offers a variety of local and national shops, services, cafes, pubs, restaurants, and takeaways. Additionally, you can easily access the beautiful Scottish countryside. The town is located on the outskirts of the expansive Gleniffer Braes Country Park, and the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park is just a short half-hour drive away. On the other hand, if you prefer an urban experience, Glasgow is less than a 30-minute car ride or a quick 10-minute train journey. There is also plenty of parking available and isn’t subject to the LEZ (low emission zone) like Glasgow.
Travel and Transport
Paisley has a good selection of train stations, including Paisley Gilmour Street, Paisley Canal, and Paisley St James. If you prefer to drive, you can take the A726 north to join the M8, which goes north to Langbank or east to Glasgow. The M8 is a convenient starting point for other routes as well, connecting to the M77 heading south to Kilmarnock and the M74 heading southeast past Hamilton. The A737 is also nearby giving easy access to local beaches like Irvine.
